More LA!

8/9/11

I changed Lucy’s oil today for the first time since we got her- in the parking lot of a mall.  I changed it partly because it had been 3,000 miles since the last one and oil is the life-blood of the engine, but mostly I did it so that when people drove by and saw me laying on my back under the engine, tools in hand and oil all over me, they’d say “Look at that guy fixing that old bus.  He must really know what he’s doing.”  I don’t.   Though no one asked so I didn’t have to clarify that for anyone.  Truth be told, an oil change is not far from the end of my mechanical abilities.  The folks at Jiffy Lube were kind enough to give me a free disposable oil pan and recycle my old oil for me.  No leaks, no drips, pressure and temperature are good, so at least so far it looks like I didn’t break anything.

After the oil change, we went to Thai Town.  First stop was this little unassuming noodle shop that we had heard about- Pa Ord Noodle at Sunset and Hobart.  It was amazing and just like Thailand.  Everyone eating there is Thai.  They take your order in Thai.  It tastes exactly like it does in Thailand, and it’s cheap.  Next we calculated how much empty space we had left in the bus, and then went to a Thai market and bought 4 times that amount of Thai food.  Happy Tun’y.

We then cruised around Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and wondered around the hills.

Tuesday night we got to hang out with our friend Jason Levinson in LA.  Jason and David, thanks so much for being such generous hosts and inviting us to stay with you, even with just a days notice.  Great food, great beer, and greet fun hanging out Jason.  Thanks!
